We’ve been talking about what the future holds for businesses when private wireless technologies and the edge intersect. It’s fascinating to think about how much data can be captured at the edge of 5G networks and what data insights can be harnessed. What’s even more exciting is that we’re starting to see enterprises reap these benefits.
A few weeks ago, Rogers Business announced they have launched Canada’s first 5G wireless private network (WPN) in mining, and Dell Technologies is providing key infrastructure and technology for this solution. Using Dell infrastructure, including VxRail systems, Data Protect cloud data protection and PowerSwitch networking, among technologies from other industry partners, the Rogers Business 5G WPN provides mining workers with better connectivity, communication and safety today while enabling a truly scalable network that will power thousands of new solutions. For example, imagine technologies such as drones that can deliver supplies to the bottom of a mine.
Private wireless networks are quickly becoming a cost-effective solution for enterprises to connect people, sensors and devices to drive better business results – whether it’s improving processes or delivering innovative services. How? Private 5G wireless networks can reach levels of coverage, speed and density that are not possible with public networks. It’s also less expensive to bring compute to data than to have data traversing the network.
This is just one example of why we’re investing in telecom technologies. We see the massive opportunity that lies at the edge of their open, 5G networks. We look forward to helping communications service providers capture these opportunities by continuing to partner to modernize their networks and creating differentiated services that deliver value for businesses.
