Today, we are pleased to announce that Dell has been named a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Content Management for the 13th consecutive time.
I know that I speak on behalf of our entire extended team that this one feels extra special. Attaining leadership in a highly competitive industry such as Enterprise Content Management (ECM) requires great vision and execution. Sustaining leadership requires adaptability to change. Most market pundits believe that the pace of change is accelerating. Entire industries are getting reconfigured and disrupted at an unprecedented rate. The ECM industry is certainly going through a shift, with organizations looking to harness their content to drive their digital future.
As the ECM industry has continued to evolve, Gartner has likewise updated its description to most accurately define the industry. The analyst firm terms enterprise content management as follows: ‘“ECM is a set of services and microservices, embodied either as an integrated product suite or as separate applications that share common APIs and repositories, to exploit diverse content types, and serve multiple constituencies and numerous use cases across an organization.” Such services include document management, records management, image-processing applications, such as document capture and storage, social content and collaboration, content workflow and package apps and integration.
So it is a matter of much pride for us to be the “progressive incumbent” and to earn a Leader* position, which we believe validates the strength of our broad spectrum of management capabilities; our wide set of vertical and horizontal solutions; our cloud ECM strategy, featuring our LEAP content platform; and the satisfaction of our customer base.

Our new set of applications for today’s digital enterprises, called Dell LEAP, squarely addresses Gartner’s analysis of the industry and delivers on the Dell promise of services and productivity apps that will enable new content-based interactions both inside and outside the enterprise. These offerings provide targeted solutions and take full advantage of major advances in security, mobility, cloud application delivery, collaboration and big-data analytics.
Our LEAP apps are also designed to be interoperable with existing content repositories, but engineered to work “better together” with the Documentum and InfoArchive families of content and data management products. Repository independence allows content to be managed in place – without customers having to shuttle their content – unlike other solutions in the market. By themselves, Dell LEAP apps and services are incredibly compelling. Combined with our traditional offerings, they are invaluable. And, they reinforce the need for change in the market.
Change is inevitable. Change helps differentiate the leaders from the also-rans. The future belongs to those that not just embrace change but manifest it in the market. We look forward to continuing to be a change agent and a leader in the ECM industry, bringing our customers the proper balance of vision and execution to support their digital agenda.
*According to the report, “Leaders” have the highest combined scores for Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision. They are doing well and are prepared for the future with a clearly articulated vision. In the context of ECM, they have strong channel partners, presence in multiple regions, consistent financial performance, broad platform support and good customer support. They are very strong in one or more technologies or vertical segments. Leaders deliver a suite that addresses the demand for direct delivery of the majority of core components, although these are not necessarily owned by them, tightly integrated, unique or best of breed in each area. In our assessments we looked for demonstrated enterprise deployments; integration with other business applications and content repositories; incorporation of social, cloud and mobile capabilities; and vertical-process and horizontal-solution focus. Leaders should drive market transformation.
