Last week, Ricky Santos, VP Dell Global Cloud Services traveled to Belgium to deliver a keynote at the 2012 European Cloud Computing Conference. In addition to the keynote and meetings with the EMEA Government Affairs team, Ricky also participated on a panel with William Kennard, US ambassador to the EU. Ricky’s trip to Europe demonstrated Dell’s leadership position in cloud computing and our interest in reaching beyond North America to Europe and Asia in 2012.
The primary message from Dell is that we are an end-to-end cloud solutions provider; for example, Dell manages 650,000 integration processes in the cloud with Dell Boomi and processes 20 billion security events a day with SecureWorks, a core component of the Dell cloud. Dell is also a strong believer in open solutions for cloud computing as demonstrated in our active participation in the OpenStack community and deployment of OpenStack Private Clouds to global customers. Finally, Dell is also developing cloud computing solutions with rules and policy management that respect compliance laws in conjunction with governmental leaders who are working on data privacy and protection regulations.
From his experience, Ricky has a better understanding of the potential compliance issues cloud companies face in Europe, such as data protection and is already engaging with the various cloud teams at Dell to ensure that our European solutions meet the strict needs of the customer. Ricky has also received an invitation to attend the European Commission meeting on cloud computing in April where he can further provide input into the ongoing cloud regulations as well as better understand how Dell can meet the European cloud customer’s challenges.
