Data Lakes continue to gain momentum as the go-to strategy for prepping Big Data for analysis. Since we launched Data Lakes at the beginning of the third quarter, we’ve seen a huge interest from our customers, partners and the marketplace to manage the challenges of data growth. We’re now taking the Data Lake to the next level for a variety of Big Data analytics needs.
This week, EMC announced a one-two punch of news with enterprise Hadoop players. First, EMC and Cloudera announced a collaboration to integrate EMC Isilon Scale-Out NAS with Cloudera’s Enteprise Data Hub, enabling users to access and analyze data in an agile environment.
Second, EMC and Pivotal announced an update to our Data Lakes bundle. This bundle now enables scale-out storage, scale-out compute and Big Data analytics.
Not only do these two offerings further the value of EMC’s Data Lake strategy while setting customers up for powerful Big Data analytics, they also demonstrate EMC’s commitment to enterprise Hadoop. As a leading player in the Big Data storage game, our customers expect us to scale out to meet the demands of their data anytime, anywhere. And now with the integration with Cloudera Enterprise, and the bundled offering with Pivotal, we’re also enabling customers to analyze and use their Big Data every day, all with the freedom to choose the enterprise Hadoop vendor that’s right for them.
Now on to Data lakes: in a recent IDC Insight titled “Enterprise Data Lake Platforms: Deep Storage for Big Data and Analytics”; Researchers Ashish Nadkarni and Laura DuBois see the data lakes become a core part of enterprise storage infrastructure. To quote from the study:
“As businesses learn to collate data from various sources and convert it into consumable nuggets of information for their various organizational units, they will no doubt be compelled to establish enterprise wide data lakes — upon which various workloads can concurrently operate. Such data lakes will enable existing workloads, as well as be future proof to seamlessly support new applications and workloads.” further “suppliers like EMC are beginning to position their scaleout file and object platforms like Isilon to support data lakes as the next stop on a journey to make their platforms ready for the next wave of Big Data, social, mobile, and cloud applications”
EMC, together with Pivotal, will be available at Strata + Hadoop world 2014 in New York city to demonstrate the solution architecture and answer any questions. We’re also presenting “Ask the Expert” sessions to provide insights from real world implementations. Find out more at http://bit.ly/1sIOWIe
