Removing the system board

Prerequisites

CAUTION:If you are using the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) with an encryption key, you may be prompted to create a recovery key during program or System Setup. Be sure to create and safely store this recovery key. If you replace this system board, you must supply the recovery key when you restart your system or program before you can access the encrypted data on your drives.

Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions.
Follow the procedure listed in the Before working inside your system.
Remove the following components:
1. Air shroud
2. Expansion cards
3. Expansion card riser
4. Internal mini PERC card
5. If applicable, IDSDM module
6. If applicable, internal USB
7. Memory modules
8. Processor
9. Heat sink
10. LOM riser card
11. If applicable, rear drive cage
12. Trusted Platform Module
13. Disconnect the fan cables
14. CAUTION:To prevent damage to the processor socket when replacing a faulty system board, ensure that you cover the processor socket with the processor dust cover.
15. Disconnect all the cables from the system board.

CAUTION:Take care not to damage the system identification button while removing the system board from the system.

Steps

Using a Phillips #2 screwdriver, remove the screws securing the system board to the chassis.
Holding the system board holder, slightly lift the system board and slide it towards the front of the chassis.
Lift the system board out of the chassis.
