Removing the system fan

  1. Follow the procedure in Before Working Inside Your Computer .
  2. Remove the:
    1. cover

    2. front bezel

    3. hard drive assembly

    4. optical drive

  3. To remove the system fan:
    1. Disconnect the power cable from the system board [1] [2].
    2. Unroute the power cable from the retention clips on the chassis [3] [4].
    3. Move the cable away from the computer.Figure displaying how to remove the system fan from the computer.
    4. Disconnect the power cable from the system board [1] [2].
    5. Lift the cable away from the computer [3].Figure displaying how to remove the system fan from the computer.
    6. Disconnect the system fan cable from the system board [1].
    7. Release the system fan cable from the retention clip [2].
    8. Slide the fan grommets toward the slot on the back wall [3].
    9. Lift the system fan away from the computer [4].
