Removing the base cover

CAUTION:The information in this removal section is intended for authorized service technicians only.

Prerequisites

Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
NOTE:Ensure that your computer is in Service Mode. For more information, see Before working inside your computer.
CAUTION:If you are unable to turn on the computer, if your computer is unable to enter Service Mode, or the computer does not support Service Mode, go to disconnect the battery cable.

About this task

NOTE:Before removing the base cover, ensure that there is no microSD card that is installed in the microSD card slot on your computer.

The following images indicate the location of the base cover and provide a visual representation of the removal procedure.

Steps

  1. Remove the eight screws (M2x3, Torx 5) that secure the base cover to the palm-rest assembly.
    NOTE:A Torx #5 (T5) screwdriver is necessary to remove the eight screws (M2x3, Torx 5).
  2. Place your thumbs and fingers into the recess at the top edge of the base cover.
  3. Use both thumbs to pry the base cover to release it from the palm-rest assembly.

  4. Using your hands, pry the base cover from the side of your computer.

  5. Lift the base cover off the palm-rest assembly.
    NOTE:Ensure that your computer is in Service Mode. If your computer is unable to enter Service Mode, disconnect the battery cable from the system board. To disconnect the battery cable, follow step 6 to step 8.
  6. Loosen the captive screw that secures the battery connector bracket to the palm-rest assembly.
  7. Remove the battery connector bracket from the palm-rest assembly.
  8. Using the pull tab, disconnect the battery cable from the system board.

  9. Press and hold the power button for five seconds to ground the computer and drain the flea power.
