Removing the keyboard

CAUTION:The information in this removal section is intended for authorized service technicians only.

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the base cover.
  3. Remove the M.2 2230 solid-state drive or M.2 2280 solid-state drive from the M.2 SSD slot, whichever is applicable.
  4. Remove the battery.
  5. Remove the display assembly.
  6. Remove the power button with fingerprint reader.
  7. Remove the system board.
    NOTE:The system board can be removed with the heat sink attached.

Steps

  1. Open the latch of the keyboard-backlit cable and use the pull tab of the cable to disconnect the keyboard-backlit cable from the keyboard-backlit connector (JKBBL2) on the system board.
  2. Open the latch of the keyboard cable and use the pull tab to disconnect the keyboard cable from the keyboard cable connector (JKB1) on the system board.
  3. Remove the 17 screws (M1.4x1.2) and seven screws (M1.4x1.4) that secure the keyboard to the palm-rest assembly.
  4. Unthread the keyboard-backlit cable and the keyboard cable through the opening on the palm-rest assembly.
  5. Lift the keyboard off the palm-rest assembly until the tabs of the keyboard are out from the openings on the palm-rest assembly.
