Shut down a single node

Shut down an individual node in a cluster.

About this task

This is useful when replacing node hardware or performing other maintenance tasks.

Steps

  1. On the VMware vSphere Client, click Hosts and Clusters and select your VxRail cluster from the left navigation bar.
  2. Select the Monitor tab.
  3. Select VxRail > Physical View from the inner left navigation bar.
  4. Click the host to view and then click the View Host Details link (hostname) on the right side of the window.
  5. Click Actions and select Shutdown Host.
  6. On the Shutdown Host window, correct any issues that are detected by the precheck routine.
  7. When the precheck routine completes, click Continue to shut down the node.

Results

During the precheck routine, VxRail Manager checks the following:
  • Hosts are not in maintenance mode
  • Cluster health monitoring is on
  • Hosts are connected
  • DRS is enabled, or that all VMs on this host have been shut down
  • All VMs with vGPU enabled have been shut down
