Dell VxRail Architecture Overview

PDF

VMware vCenter Server

A single VMware vCenter Server instance can manage multiple VxRail 2-node clusters with VMware vSAN. Both VxRail-managed VMware vCenter Server and a customer-managed VMware vCenter Server are supported. If you are using a customer-managed VMware vCenter Server, deploy the VMware vCenter Server before deploying the 2-node cluster.

A customer-managed VMware vCenter Server is preferred for the following reasons:
  • A customer-managed VMware vCenter Server is available even if a cluster fails. Certain networking failures, such as the interswitch links, can disable VMs under certain affinity rule definitions. Those disruptions can impact troubleshooting efforts.
  • If there is a VxRail-driven cluster shutdown, you are responsible for shutting down the customer-managed VMware vCenter Server instance.
