Changing the operating system password
If you lose the password on storage VM (SVM), start up in recovery mode to reset it.
Steps
- Log in to PowerFlex Manager.
- Select the SVM, and click Enter Maintenance Mode.
- Select Protected, and click Enter Maintenance Mode.
- Log in to VMware vCenter. Select the cluster and click .
- Restart the SVM.

ESC during restart and click
OK to enter text mode.
NOTE:You might have to hold down the ESC key.
- Type E to edit the password.
- Select the second line (starts with kernel /boot…) and type E.
- Append init=/bin/bash to the end of the line.
- Select B to restart in recovery mode.
- After the PowerFlex node restarts, type passwd, and enter a new password.
- Type reboot, and allow the SVM to restart using the new password.
