Clone the file system

Any existing file system can be cloned as a thin clone.

About this task

When you perform a thin clone file system operation, a new user file system is created. You can select any file system and clone it. Select the NAS server where the cloned file system can be created. By default, the file system thin clone is created on the same NAS server. The cloned file system supports all lifecycle operations (snap, clone, restore, extend, shrink, delete) of the original file system. You can delete or modify the parent or ancestor file system without impacting the cloned file system. File-level retention is enabled in the cloned file system if the original file system is file-level retention that is enabled.

Steps

  1. Log in to PowerFlex Manager.
  2. Click File > File Systems.
  3. Select the file system that you want to clone, and click Repurpose > Thin Clone File System.
  4. From the Create Thin Clone window, select the NAS server from the drop-down list and provide the name (should be unique).
NOTE: Select a NAS server from the same storage pool. The target cloned file system is restricted to the NAS servers which are within the source storage pool.
NOTE: Events publishing can only be enabled when events are configured on the selected NAS server.
  5. Click Clone.
The cloned file system is now added to the file system list.
  6. If the file system is enabled with a global namespace, activate a cloned namespace after it is cloned:
    1. Click File > Global Namespace and select the cloned namespace.
    2. Click Activate.
    3. Provide the unique global namespace and click Apply.
