Register Unity Storage System

Use the procedure in this section to register Unity storage system to the VSI plug-in.

Prerequisites

  • You cannot add Storage Pools, Capability Profiles, and NAS Servers without registering Unity storage array.
  • Non-admin user who has host level privileges can also register storage systems to the plug-in.

Steps

  1. Log in to the VMware vSphere Client.
  2. Click Menu > Dell VSI.
  3. Click Storage Systems on the left side.
    The Storage Systems page is displayed.
  4. To register the Unity storage system, click + (add) icon.
    The Register Storage System wizard is displayed.
  5. To register the Unity storage system, follow the on-screen step-by-step process.
    In the Type and Connection Settings step, enter the values for following parameters:
    • Storage System Type: Select Unity storage system from the drop-down list.
    • Unisphere Host Name/IP
      NOTE Host name and IP address both are supported.
    • Unisphere Username
    • Unisphere Password

    Once all the values are specified, the NEXT button is enabled. Click NEXT.

  6. In the Import Certificates step, you can import the certificates if the storage system or vCenter uses third party or intermediate certificate.
    NOTE The Import Certificates step is optional, you can click NEXT to proceed without importing certificates.
  7. In the Storage Pools step, select the storage pools that you want to register and click NEXT.
    NOTE
    • You can select multiple storage pools by selecting the check boxes.
    • Storage pool selection can be also done post the storage system registration.
  8. In the NAS Servers step, select the NAS Servers that you want to register and click NEXT.
    NOTE
    • You can select multiple NAS servers by selecting the check boxes.
    • NAS server selection can be also done post the storage system registration.
  9. In the Capability Profiles step, select the capability profiles to be accessible to VSI and click NEXT.
    NOTE The capability profiles cannot be created in VSI, they must be created from Unisphere.
  10. In the Storage Access step, select the users or groups from the list of all the vCenter users and groups are displayed. Click NEXT. The selected users or groups are granted access to the Unity Storage Pools, Capability Profiles, and NAS Servers.
    NOTE
    • The Storage Access tab is enabled only if you select a Storage Pool, Capability Profile, or NAS Server. This tab is not displayed in the wizard if you do not select any Storage Pool, Capability Profile, or a NAS Server.
    You can select multiple users or groups by selecting the check boxes.
  11. In the VASA Provider step, select the checkbox to register VASA provider in vCenters and click NEXT.
    NOTE The VASA Provider step is not visible if it is already registered.
  12. In the Hosts step, select the hosts to be registered to the Unity and click NEXT.
    NOTE The Hosts step is not visible if all hosts have been registered in Unity.
  13. In the Ready to Register step, review the settings and click FINISH.

Results

The Unity storage system is registered and displayed on the Storage Systems page.
