Register a Dell PowerStore Storage System

Use the procedure in this topic to register a Dell PowerStore storage system to the VSI plug-in.

Prerequisites

  • A user that registers a Dell PowerStore storage system to the VSI plug-in is the owner and can edit registration excluding ownership.
  • A vCenter administrator can edit the registration, but only change the owner.

Steps

  1. Log in to the VMware vSphere Client.
  2. Click Menu > Dell VSI.
  3. Click Storage Systems on the left side.
The Storage Systems page is displayed.
  4. On the Storage Systems page, click + (add) icon.
The Register Storage System wizard is displayed.
  5. To register the Dell PowerStore storage system, follow the on-screen step-by-step process:

In the Type and Connection Settings step, select or enter the values for following parameters:

    • Storage System Type
    • PowerStore Name/IP
    • Username
    • Password

Once all the values are specified, the NEXT button is enabled. Click NEXT.

  6. In the Storage Access step, select the vCenter users and groups to provide them access to the storage. Click NEXT.
  7. In the VASA Provider step, select the check-box Register as VASA Provider to enable vVols using this storage system. Click NEXT.
    NOTE
    • The VASA Provider step is added, only when VSI detects that the Dell PowerStore storage system is not registered as a VASA Provider.
    • Supports registering all vCenter servers in linked mode groups.
  8. In the Hosts step, select the Protocol Type as FC, iSCSI or NVMe. Select the hosts and click NEXT.
NOTE You can click NEXT without selecting any host if you do not wish to add host during registration.
  9. In the Ready to Register step, review your selections and click FINISH.
You can click BACK to make any changes.

Results

The Dell PowerStore storage system is now registered to VSI plug-in and displayed on the Storage Systems page.
NOTE
  • Click the storage name to view the storage system details. To view the details of the users who have access to the storage system, click Storage Access on the left side.
  • A read-only vCenter user cannot view VASA provider information of PowerStore.
