Link Snapshot

Learn how to link a snapshot to a host.

Prerequisites

  • VMFS datastore must exist.
  • Snapshots must exist on the datastore.
  • Host must be configured on a vCenter.

Steps

  1. Log in to the VMware vSphere Client.
  2. Click Menu > Storage.
  3. Select the VMFS datastore, click Configure > Dell VSI > Storage.
  4. Click Snapshots, the Snapshots page displays the list of snapshots that are created on the datastore.
  5. Select the snapshot that you want to link it to a host. Click More Actions > Link Snapshot.
    The Link Snapshot dialog box is displayed. It lists the hosts that are configured in the vCenter.
    NOTE You can also launch Link Snapshot dialog box from the Links tab when the snapshot is expanded to view details.
  6. Select the storage group from the drop-down list. Click LINK.
    NOTE
    • You can also create a permanent copy of the datastore by selecting the check-box Create a permanent, full-time copy (datastore).
    • When you link a snapshot for the first time, the Link Snapshot dialog box closes and the Snapshots tab reloads to update the details inLink tab.
    • Link Snapshot dialog box closes after 5 minutes (UI timeout), the operation continues in the back-end with the retry logic. This behavior occurs if the device capacity is in TB.
    NOTE The progress can be tracked in the Tasks tab.

Results

The selected snapshot is linked to the host, the value of property Linked is changed to Yes in the Snapshots page.
