This section provides instructions on how to deploy VSI.
Prerequisites
Before you deploy the VSI plug-in, install the VMware vSphere client, using the VMware documentation at
www.vmware.com.
The required environment and system requirements are listed on the
Dell Simple Support Matrix.
About this task
You must have administrator privileges to deploy the OVA file to the vCenter.
Steps
Log in to the vCenter through the VMware vSphere Client (HTML5).
Click
Menu > Hosts and Clusters.
Right-click the vCenter, host, or cluster and select
Deploy OVF Template.
The
Deploy OVF Template wizard is displayed.
On the
Select template tab, enter the URL to download the OVA file from the Internet or browse to a location accessible from your local drive and click
NEXT.
On the
Select name and folder tab, enter a name for the virtual machine and select a folder to place it and click
NEXT.
On the
Select a compute resource tab, select a cluster or a host to deploy the OVA file and click
NEXT.
On the
Review details tab, verify that the OVA information is correct and click
NEXT.
On the
Accept license agreements tab, click
Accept and click
NEXT.
On the
Select storage tab, select an appropriate virtual disk format and VM storage policy. To deploy the OVA file, select the datastore and click
NEXT.
On the
Select networks tab, select the destination network and click
NEXT.
On the
Customize template tab, enter the values for
Networking properties and
VSI Registration.
Networking Properties has five settings, enter the values for:
Default Gateway
DNS
Network 1 IP Address
Network 1 Netmask
NTP servers
VSI Registration has four settings, enter the values for:
Enable Root Virtual Machine Access
NOTE You can select the checkbox to enable the root virtual machine access on IAPI Server.
CAUTION It is recommended to secure the credentials and must be used by authorized users. To enable and disable SSH, see
Enable/Disable SSH for VM.
NOTE A dialog box is displayed to confirm after the OVA is deployed, the user is expected to open a browser and navigate to virtual machine IP and use the initial setup wizard.
Click
NEXT.
On the
Ready to complete tab, verify that all the information is correct and click
Finish.
The deployment of the OVF package on the destination datastore begins and the progress is displayed under
Recent Tasks.
Once the OVF template is deployed, power on the IAPI server by clicking the green play button or right-click the IAPI server
Power > Power On.
NOTE When a user first deploys the VSI plugin, a warning is displayed to update the default root user password. Change the password in
Update VSI Virtual Machine Password dialog box and click
UPDATE.
Once the VM is powered on, wait for few moments to allow VSI services to power on and then open a browser to navigate to the VM IP to use the initial setup wizard.
In the initial setup wizard:
You are greeted with a welcome page, click
NEXT.
You can import vCenter certificates or choose to do it later and click
NEXT.
Import a vCenter administrator Username and Password and confirm the Password.
For a standalone vCenter, enter a vCenter IP or FQDN. For a linked mode group, user can use a comma separated list of vCenter IPs or FQDNs. Click
NEXT.
Review the summary page, click
FINISH to register VSI with the vCenters.
Log in to your vCenter and the VSI is registered.
Results
The
Dell VSI plug-in is deployed and displayed under
Menu in the vCenter.
NOTE You may have to log off from vSphere Client and login.
