Create Thin Clone of Snapshot

Learn how to create thin clone of the snapshot for VMFS datastores.

Prerequisites

  • Snapshot must be created.
  • Ensure that the host used to mount the clone has FC or iSCSI connection with Dell PowerStore storage system.

Steps

  1. Log in to the VMware vSphere Client.
  2. Click Menu > Storage.
  3. Select the VMFS datastore, click Configure > Dell VSI > Storage.
  4. Click Snapshots tab, it displays the list of snapshots that are created on the datastore.
  5. Select the snapshot that you want to use to create the clone and click More Actions > Create Thin Clone of Snapshot.
    The Create Thin Clone of Snapshot dialog box is displayed.
  6. Enter the name for datastore clone, select the protocol type, and select the hosts based on the protocol to be mapped. Select the Performance Policy and Protection Policy.
    A thin clone of the snapshot will be attached to hosts as a datastore.
  7. Click CREATE.
    A thin clone of the snapshot is successfully created.
