Create Thin Clone of Snapshot

Use the procedure in this topic to create thin clone of the snapshot for VMFS datastores on Unity storage system.

Prerequisites

  • Snapshot must be created.
  • Snapshot must have Retention Policy as No Automatic Deletion.
  • Snapshot must not be attached as read/write.

Steps

  1. Log in to the VMware vSphere Client.
  2. Click Menu > Storage.
  3. Select the VMFS datastore, click Configure > Dell VSI > Storage.
  4. Click Snapshots tab, it displays the list of snapshots that are created on the datastore.
  5. Select the snapshot that you want to use to create the clone and click More Actions > Thin Clone of Snapshot.
    The Thin Clone of Snapshot wizard is displayed.
  6. Provide the following details in the Thin Clone of Snapshot wizard:
    • Enter the Name.
    • Enter the Desciption.
    • In Host Access, select the host from the list of hosts displayed to mount the clone.
    • Select the Host I/O Limits.
    • Select the Snapshot Schedule.
  7. Click CLONE to create the thin clone of the selected snapshot.
    A thin clone of the snapshot is successfully created.
    NOTE For snapshots that has clones, expiration policy cannot be changed.
