Create Snapshots on Demand

Learn how to create snapshots for existing datastores.

Prerequisites

  • VMFS datastore must exist.

Steps

  1. Log in to the VMware vSphere Client.
  2. Click Menu > Storage.
  3. Select the VMFS datastore, click Configure > Dell VSI > Storage.
  4. Click Snapshots tab, the Snapshots tab displays the list of snapshots that are created on the datastore.
  5. Click + (Add), the Create Snapshot dialog box is displayed.
    Enter the Name, Description, and select the Local Retention Policy for the snapshot to be created.
    NOTE The default name for snapshot is the timestamp. You can also customize the name of the snapshot.

    You can also create snapshot by right-clicking a datastore and click Create Snapshot option.

  6. Click CREATE.
    The snapshot is created and displayed in the Snapshots page.
    NOTE You can navigate to Snapshots page from datastore details page by clicking snapshot number when snapshot exists on the datastore.
