Create Snapshots on Demand for PowerMax

Learn how to create snapshots for existing datastores.

Prerequisites

  • VMFS datastore must exist.
  • You must have access to the storage group on which the datastore is created.
  • You must have snapshot access.

Steps

  1. Log in to the VMware vSphere Client.
  2. Click Menu > Storage.
  3. Select the VMFS datastore, click Configure > Dell VSI > Storage.
  4. Click Snapshots tab, the Snapshots tab displays the list of snapshots that are created on the datastore.
  5. Click + (Add), the Create Snapshot dialog box is displayed.
You can choose to create a New snapshot or create a copy of the Existing snapshot.
  6. If you select Existing, you can select the Existing Snapshot from the drop-down list which displays all the existing snapshots.
When you create a snapshot using the existing snapshot, a new generation of snapshot is created. The newly created snapshot is generation 0 and the older snapshots will be numbered in the ascending order.
  7. If you select New, enter the name for the new snapshot. To set the expiration time for snapshot, select the check-box Automatically expire to set the Days and Hours.
  8. Click CREATE SNAPSHOT.
The snapshot is created and displayed in the Snapshots page.
