Create vVol Datastores on a Unity Storage System

Use the procedure in this topic to create vVol datastores on a Unity storage system.

Prerequisites

  • The Unity storage system must be registered as a VASA provider and Capability Profiles must be registered to VSI plug-in.

Steps

  1. Log in to the VMware vSphere Client.
  2. Click Menu > Hosts and Clusters.
  3. Right-click a datacenter, cluster, folder, or host and select Dell VSI > Create Datastore.
The Create Datastore on Dell Storage wizard is displayed.
  4. To create the datastore, select the Type of datastore as vVol Block or vVol File. Click NEXT.
  5. In the Datastore Settings step, enter the Name of the datastore and verify the location of the datastore. Click NEXT.
  6. In the Storage System Selection step, select the Unity storage system from the list of registered storage systems. Click NEXT.
    NOTE
    • Only the Unity storage systems that the user has access to are displayed.
    • If the Unity system is not registered as a VASA Provider, a red banner is displayed.
  7. In the Capability Profile step, select the capability profiles to create the datastore.
NOTE You can modify the datastore size in the Datastore Size(GB) column by selecting the Edit (pencil) icon. The total size of the datastore is displayed below the datagrid.
  8. In the Ready to Complete step, verify the settings before creating the datastore and click FINISH.

Results

The new vVol Datastore is created and displayed under the Datastores tab for the particular datacenter, cluster, folder, or host.
