Create vVol Datastores on a
Dell PowerStore Storage System
Use the procedure in this topic to create vVol datastores on a
Dell PowerStore storage system.
Prerequisites
- You must have the required privileges to create vVol datastores on
Dell PowerStore storage system.
- The host must be registered as ESXi system by iSCSI or Fibre Channel protocol type on
Dell PowerStore storage system.
- You must register VASA provider in vCenter to create vVol datastore.
Steps

Log in to the VMware vSphere Client.

Click

Right-click a datacenter, cluster, folder, or host and select
.
The
Create Datastore on
Dell Storage wizard is displayed.

To create the datastore, either select the type as
vVol Block. Click
NEXT.
NOTE
- VSI 8.4 and later versions support only
vVol Block.
- When creating a
vVol Block datastore on
Dell PowerStore storage system, a corresponding storage container is created in the storage.

In the
Datastore Settings step, enter the name of the datastore and verify the location of the datastore. Click
NEXT.

In the
Storage System Selection step, select the
Dell PowerStore storage system that you want to use to create the datastore. Click
NEXT.
NOTE Only the storage systems a user has access to are displayed.

In the
Storage Settings step, you can set a capacity quota.
To set a capacity quota, click the checkbox
Enable VVol datastore capacity quota and set the
Maximum Capacity from the drop-down. Click
NEXT.
NOTE The supported minimum capacity is 10 GB, and the maximum capacity is 4096 PB.

In the
Ready to Complete step, review the settings. Click
BACK to modify your settings or click
FINISH to create the datastore.
Results
The new datastore is created and is displayed under the
Datastores tab for the particular datacenter, cluster, folder, or host.
