Use the procedure in this topic to create RDMs on
PowerStore storage system.
Prerequisites
The datastore on which the VM resides must be in iSCSI or FC connection with the host. (Creating RDM with NVMe connection is not supported.)
Steps
Log in to the VMware vSphere Client.
Click
Menu > VMs and Templates.
Select a VM, click
Configure > Dell VSI > Storage.
Click
+ CREATE RDM.
NOTE You can also use create RDM by right-clicking a VM
Dell VSI > + CREATE RDM.
The
Create RDM Disk on
Dell storage wizard is displayed.
NOTE RDM creation is supported only for VMs based on VMFS datastores.
In the
Hard Disk Settings step, select the disk settings. Click
NEXT.
In the
Storage System step, select the
PowerStore storage system that you want to use to create the RDM. Click
NEXT.
NOTE
RDM disk is not supported on NVMe hosts. When you select a NVMe host to create the RDM disk, an error banner will be displayed and disable the
NEXT button.
Only the storage systems the user has access to are displayed.
In the
Storage Settings step, select the disk capacity, performance and protection policies. Click
NEXT.
In the
Storage Settings step, select the
Capacity of the disk, the
Performance Policy,
Protection Policy (Optional), and
Appliance Placement. Click
NEXT.
NOTE For
Appliance Placement, select
Auto for random selection of appliance.
In the
Ready to Complete step, verify your settings. Click
BACK to modify your settings or click
FINISH to create the RDM.
Results
The progress of RDM creation is displayed in the Recent Tasks panel and when completed an RDM disk is successfully created.
NOTE The RDM creation task is submitted to the vCenter, and the RDM data must be collected from vCenter after the completion of the task. Hence, there might be a delay in displaying the capacity of RDM.
