Use the procedure in this topic to create RDMs on
PowerFlex storage system.
Prerequisites
You must have enough vCenter privileges to create volumes.
Steps
Log in to the VMware vSphere Client.
Click
Menu > VMs and Templates.
Select a VM, click
Configure > Dell VSI > Storage.
Click
+ CREATE RDM.
NOTE You can also use create RDM by right-clicking a VM
Dell VSI > + CREATE RDM.
The
Create RDM Disk on
Dell storage wizard is displayed.
NOTE RDM creation is supported only for VMs based on VMFS datastores.
In the
Hard Disk Settings step, select the hard disk settings to create the RDMs.
Select the values for the following settings:
Location
NOTE You cannot select the value for
Location in this release, it is autoset to
Share with the virtual machine.
Compatibility Mode
NOTE If the compatibility mode is selected as virtual, the setting
Disk Mode is enabled. Select the value for
Disk Mode.
Shares
Limit IOPs
Virtual Device Nodes
Click
NEXT.
On the
Storage System tab, select the
PowerFlex storage system that you want to use to create the RDMs. Click
NEXT.
On the
Storage Settings tab, select the values for:
Capacity
NOTE The minimum capacity is 8 GB.
Storage Pool
Provisioning
Choose to enable either of the following:
Thin
Thick
In the
Ready to Complete step, review your selections and click
FINISH.
The progress of RDM creation is displayed in the
Recent Tasks panel and when completed an RDM disk is successfully created. To view the RDM details, click
Configure > Dell VSI > Storage and select the RDM disk that you created.
NOTE The RDM creation task is submitted to the vCenter, and the RDM data must be collected from vCenter after the completion of the task. Hence, there might be a delay in displaying the details after RDM creation.
NOTE The progress can be tracked in the
Tasks tab.
