Attach Snapshot

Learn how to attach a snapshot to a host.

Prerequisites

  • VMFS datastore must exist.
  • Snapshots must exist on the datastore.
  • Host must be configured on a vCenter.
  • Hosts and their vCenters must be registered in Unisphere console.

Steps

  1. Log in to the VMware vSphere Client.
  2. Click Menu > Storage.
  3. Select the VMFS datastore, click Configure > Dell VSI > Storage.
    NOTE Only VMFS datastores support attach and detach snapshots functionality.
  4. Click Snapshots tab, it displays the list of snapshots that are created on the datastore.
  5. Select the snapshot that you want to attach it to a host. Click More Actions > Attach Snapshot.
    The Attach Snapshot dialog box is displayed. It lists the hosts that are configured in the vCenter.
    NOTE You can attach the snapshot to multiple hosts.
  6. Select the host from the list of hosts displayed. Click ATTACH.
    NOTE You can also create a copy of the snapshot by selecting the check-box Create a copy of the snapshot. The name of the snapshot can also be customized.
    NOTE In VSI, the snapshots are attached to hosts as Read/Write.

Results

The selected snapshot is attached to the host, the value of property Attached is changed to Yes.
