Removing the 3.5-inch hard drive

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the left-side cover.
  3. Remove the front cover.

Steps

  1. Place the computer on its side with the left side facing up.
  2. Disconnect the data and power cables from the hard drive.
  3. Remove the two (#6-32) screws that secure the 3.5-inch hard-drive assembly to the hard-drive and optical-drive bracket.
  4. Lift and slide the 3.5-inch hard-drive assembly away from the hard-drive and optical-drive bracket.
  5. Turn over and place the 3.5-inch hard-drive assembly on a flat surface.
  6. Remove the two (#6-32) screws that secure the 3.5-inch hard drive to the hard-drive cage.
  7. Slide and remove the 3.5-inch hard drive from the hard-drive cage.
