About this task

This capability is available on the PowerFlex appliance and PowerFlex rack offerings only.

Steps

  1. On the menu bar, click Lifecycle > Resource Groups.
  2. On the Resource Groups page, select a resource group and click View Details in the right pane.
  3. Scroll down to the Physical Nodes section of the page.
  4. Under Physical Nodes, click NVDIMM Replacement.
PowerFlex Manager displays the Node List panel in the NVDIMM Replacement wizard.
  5. Click Next.
PowerFlex Manager displays the Select Component panel. All the available NVDIMMs are displayed under the NVDIMM header while the available NVDIMM batteries are displayed under NVDIMM Battery.
  6. Select the NVDIMM or battery that you want to replace.
A message is displayed prompting you to ensure that the node selection is correct as the NVDIMM replacement process is irreversible.
  7. Enter REMOVE NVDIMM and click Confirm to proceed with the NVDIMM replacement. To replace an NVDIMM battery, enter REMOVE NVDIMM BATTERY.
A message stating the removal or addition of the NVDIMM or battery, with the node and slot numbers, is displayed on the Resource Groups page. The status of the resource group and the individual node is "In Progress". The log details are also displayed in the Recent Activity section on the right side of the page.

A job for the replacement of the battery is created. Click the jobs icon at the upper right hand-side of the menu bar to view the details of the job.

After the NVDIMM or battery is replaced, the host and SVM are turned off. After the physical replacement of the NVDIMM and the battery, the status of the host and node on the Resource Groups page display service mode. Also, the option Discover Replacement NVDIMM is displayed on the page. When the NVDIMM is replaced physically, click Discover Replacement NVDIMM. The Discover Replacement NVDIMM turns on the node and does a system erase of the NVDIMMs. On completion of the discovery, the log displays the status as "Complete" and the option Complete NVDIMM Replacement is displayed.

  8. Click Complete to complete the replacement process.
After the NVDIMM is replaced, you can create virtual hardware for the NVDIMM device, remove the SDS from maintenance or service mode, and turn on the SVM.

After the new NVDIMM node or battery is added, a message indicating the completion of the NVDIMM node or battery is displayed on the Resource Groups page. And, Dismiss option is displayed for dismissing the task.
