Configuring an audit log policy

Audit log is a collection of various events that occur in a system. Audit logs facilitate detection and response to cyber threats. By default, an audit log policy is disabled.

About this task

In PowerFlex Manager, the audit log contains details of the following events:

  • User authentication and authorization
  • System configuration and security policy changes
  • Security events

Security Information and Event Manager (SIEM) manages log collection, log analysis, log forensics, real-time alerting, user activity monitoring and retention. About four SIEM can be sent over a secured connection.

Administrators can collect events and alerts from remote systems, also called sources and store them on a central server. The Audit Log Converter receives the events and alerts and forwards them in an encrypted form to the remote SIEM.

The Audit Logging Enabler is required to send logs in real-time on an automated basis. The audit logs are persistent for 10 to 90 days. Audit logs sent through SIEM have a retention period of 12 to 18 months.

Steps

  1. Go to Events and Alerts > Notification Policies > Policies > Audit Log Policy.
  2. Click Configure Now.
The Audit Log Policy window opens.
  3. Select and existing destination to forward the audit logs, from the Destination drop-down or click Create Destination to create a destination in the Add Destination window.
You can create up to four audit log destinations.
NOTE:You can skip this step if you do not want to forward the audit logs.
  4. Click Enable Audit Logs to create a source of the type Audit Log.
  5. Click Save.
