Dell PowerFlex 4.5.x Install and Upgrade Guide

Networking

PowerFlex network types and definitions:

Network type Used
General-purpose LAN To access network resources for basic networking activities
PowerFlex data (All network together) For data traffic between all PowerFlex core components
PowerFlex data (client-traffic only)-separate client and internal storage network For storage data clients (SDC) to storage data servers (SDS) traffic. This network can also be used for NVMe target (SDT) to NVMe over TCP host traffic.
NOTE:It can be a separate data network than the SDS-SDC network. If you are using file this network is also used to connect the SDS to the SDCs on the file controller nodes
PowerFlex data (server-traffic only)-separate client and internal storage network For storage data server to storage data server traffic only. The same network is used for NVMe target(SDT), SDR (Replication), MDM internal traffic.
PowerFlex management For PowerFlex system management
PowerFlex replication For storage data replicator (SDR) to storage data server (storage or storage data server) or system to system replication traffic

For SDR to storage data clients (application or storage data clients) traffic

For SDR to SDR traffic

PowerFlex file management To support PowerFlex file management traffic
PowerFlex file data For file data traffic between PowerFlex file server and NFS or CIFS client

Networking requirements

The following are the networking requirements for installing or upgrading PowerFlex. These requirements apply only when you are installing resources using a PowerFlex Manager template.
  • When deploying PowerFlex on each node, there should be one IP address that can access PowerFlex Manager.
  • If you want to separate PowerFlex management IP addresses and data networks, you can have more than one network.
  • If you are deploying a server with one IP address, that IP address has to serve as both the PowerFlex management IP address and data IP address.
  • If you are using more than one network, create the network that is routed and can reach PowerFlex Manager as PowerFlex management type network, and other networks as PowerFlex datatype networks. For more information about networking, see Dell PowerFlex 4.5.x Technical Overview.
    NOTE:If bonding interfaces and using mode 6 ALB updelay option may need to be increased above zero (which is the default) in the bond config file.
    For example:
    MTU='9000'
    BOOTPROTO='none'
    STARTMODE='auto'
    ZONE='public'
    BONDING_MASTER='yes'
    BONDING_SLAVE0='em3'
    BONDING_SLAVE1='p2p1'
    BONDING_MODULE_OPTS='mode=6 miimon=100 updelay=100'
