Dell PowerFlex 4.5.x Install and Upgrade Guide

Discover and connect to the target PowerFlex system

Use the following procedure to obtain SDT IP addresses for discovering the target PowerFlex system.

Prerequisites

  • Ensure that a volume is mapped to the host to be able to connect the SDT paths.
  • Obtain SDT IP addresses.

Steps

  1. From PowerFlex Manager, click Block > NVMe Targets.
  2. Select any one of the listed SDTs.
  3. Record the IP addresses and discovery port in the lower right corner.
  4. To perform the discovery to check that there is an NVMe connection, use the following command:
    #nvme discover --transport=tcp --traddr=192.168.163.17 --host-traddr=192.168.163.251 --trsvcid=8009

192.168.163.17 is the NVMe over TCP controller IP address (data 1 VLAN) and 192.168.163.251 is the NVMe over TCP host IP address (data 1 VLAN).

  5. On the NVMe over TCP client, connect the client to the PowerFlex NVMe over TCP target system.
  6. Configure the /etc/nvme/discovery.conf file to add the parameters used in the NVMe discover command and use -p at the end of the command for persistent controller discovery.
    Persistent discovery controller will:
    1. Notify a host of fabric changes after initial discovery.
    2. Host retains connection to discovery controller.
NOTE:Add an entry for all the SDT IP addresses discovered in the previous step:
    echo "--transport=tcp --traddr=192.168.163.17 --host-traddr=192.168.163.251 --trsvcid=8009 -p" >> /etc/nvme/discovery.conf
    echo "--transport=tcp --traddr=192.168.163.18 --host-traddr=192.168.163.251 --trsvcid=8009 -p" >> /etc/nvme/discovery.conf
    echo "--transport=tcp --traddr=192.168.163.19 --host-traddr=192.168.163.251 --trsvcid=8009 -p" >> /etc/nvme/discovery.conf
    echo "--transport=tcp --traddr=192.168.161.20 --host-traddr=192.168.161.251 --trsvcid=8009 -p" >> /etc/nvme/discovery.conf
    Where
    • --traddr=192.168.161.xx— Data 1 IP address configured in SDT.
    • --traddr=192.168.163.xx—Data 2 IP address configured in SDT.
    • --host-traddr=192.168.163.251—Data 1 IP address configured in the NVMe host.
    • --host-traddr=192.168.161.251—Data 2 IP address configured in the NVMe host.
  7. Connect the NVMe over TCP host to the controller system.
    # nvme connect-all
  8. Verify that the NVMe over TCP host can access the namespace:
    # nvme list-subsys
