Dell PowerFlex 4.5.x Install and Upgrade Guide

Configure the PowerFlex management platform networking interfaces

Use the following procedure to complete the steps to configure the networking files for the PowerFlex management platform cluster VMs.

About this task

NOTE:
  • For a multi-VLAN or multi-subnet configuration, the PowerFlex management controller management must be configured on PowerFlex management controller management (130).
  • For standard builds without multi-VLAN or multi-subnet configuration, can be on either VMware ESXi management (105) or PowerFlex management controller management (130).
NOTE:Based on your requirement, configure only the required interfaces on the management VMs. If you have unused interfaces on the deployed management VMs, then ensure you disconnect those interfaces within the vCenter. For example, an out-of-band interface. If the unused interfaces are connected and unconfigured, then PowerFlex Manager may display unexpected errors.

Steps

  1. Launch the web console from the Virtual Machine Manager, log in as delladmin.
  2. Configure the flex-node-mgmt-<vlanid> eth0 interface:
    1. Type: sudo vi /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0
      DEVICE=eth0
      NAME=eth0
      STARTMODE=auto
      BOOTPROTO=static
      IPADDR=<ip address>
      NETMASK=<mask>

      For example:
      DEVICE=eth0
      NAME=eth0
      STARTMODE=auto
      BOOTPROTO=static
      IPADDR=10.10.105.30
      NETMASK=255.255.255.0

    2. Configure the default route. Type: sudo vi /etc/sysconfig/network/routes.
      default <gateway ip> - <interface>
      For example:
      default 10.10.105.1 - eth0
    3. Configure DNS search and DNS servers. Type: sudo vi /etc/sysconfig/network/config and modify the following:
      NETCONFIG_DNS_STATIC_SEARCHLIST="<search domain>"
      NETCONFIG_DNS_STATIC_SERVERS="< dns_ip1 dns_ip2>"
      For example:
      NETCONFIG_DNS_STATIC_SEARCHLIST="example.com"
      NETCONFIG_DNS_STATIC_SERVERS="10.10.105.240 10.10.105.241"
  3. Configure the flex-data1-<vlanid> eth1 interface:
    1. Type: sudo vi /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth1.
      DEVICE=eth1
      NAME=eth1
      STARTMODE=auto
      BOOTPROTO=static
      IPADDR=<ip address>
      NETMASK=<mask>
      For example:
      DEVICE=eth1
      NAME=eth1
      STARTMODE=auto
      BOOTPROTO=static
      IPADDR=192.168.151.30
      NETMASK=255.255.255.0
  4. Configure the flex-data1-<vlanid> eth2 interface:
    1. Type: sudo vi /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth2.
      DEVICE=eth2
      NAME=eth2
      STARTMODE=auto
      BOOTPROTO=static
      IPADDR=<ip address>
      NETMASK=<mask>
      For example:
      DEVICE=eth2
      NAME=eth2
      STARTMODE=auto
      BOOTPROTO=static
      IPADDR=192.168.152.30
      NETMASK=255.255.255.0
  5. Run the following command to update the network configuration:
    sudo systemctl restart network
  6. Run the following command to change the delladmin account password:
    passwd delladmin
  7. Change the root password with the following command:
    sudo passwd root
  8. Repeat steps 1 through 8 for all PowerFlex management platform VMs.
