Upgrade Dell PowerFlex to v3.6.x

Upload the upgrade packages to the PowerFlex nodes

Before performing the upgrade, copy the ESXi upgrade files to the PowerFlex nodes you are upgrading or to a shared volume.

Prerequisites

Ensure that you have access to the following:

Standby virtual machine for downloading the VMware ZIP file and SDC package
Shared volume or datastore location with approximately 400 MB free disk space to accommodate the ESXi upgrade package.

About this task

The following flow uses the ESXi 7.0 package as an example.

Steps

Download the relevant VMware upgrade package from the VMware Download VMware vSphere page.
Using SCP, copy the Dell-customized VMware ZIP archive from the file path created in the previous step to a shared datastore in a PowerFlex volume or to the /vmfs/volumes/scaleio_datastore/ folder:

For example, for ESXi 7.0, the ZIP archive name is VMware-VMvisor-Installer-7.0.0-15843807.x86_64-DellEMC_Customized-A00.zip.

NOTE:The name of the folder might be scaleio_datastoreX, where X is a number.
Copy the SDC zip archive, sdc-x.x.x.xxx-esx7.0.zip, from the file path created in the first step to the local folder.

The file name contains the version and build number of the version to which you are upgrading.

NOTE:Changes to the SDC package will be performed only as needed to avoid unnecessary reboots.
