PDF

Upgrade the PowerFlex Gateway

Upgrade the PowerFlex Gateway. This process must be performed before upgrading the other PowerFlex system components.

Prerequisites

Ensure the following:
  • You have the installation package for the new version of the PowerFlex Gateway to which you are upgrading.
  • You have the installation packages for RHEL7 for the current PowerFlex version installed in your system (for example, for PowerFlex v3.0.1, get PowerFlex v3.0.1 packages for RHEL7).
  • If the installation packages for the currently installed version of PowerFlex are not loaded in your PowerFlex Installer, get them (for example, packages for PowerFlex v3.0.1 on SLES 15). You will need to upload them to the PowerFlex Installer during this procedure.
  • You have credentials for an admin user for the PowerFlex Installer.
  • You have credentials for the cluster's vCenter: IP address or domain name, username, and password.
  • You have the LDAP connection details and credentials for the PowerFlex Gateway.
  • You have the MDM password, which is required for configuring the lockbox and LIA.
  • You have the root user and password for all SVMs.
  • There must be at least one PowerFlex node that does not have MDM or tiebreaker installed.

About this task

Limitations:

  • DAS Cache writeback caching of HDDs is no longer supported in PowerFlex systems.

Before beginning, gracefully stop the DAS Cache and restart the SDS nodes, one-at-a-time. This will stop the use of /dev/fio-X device names and revert to the underlying device names. For details, refer to VxFlex Ready Node DAS Cache Maintenance Operations Technical Notes.

Steps

  1. Upload the new PowerFlex Gateway RPM installation package to the PowerFlex Gateway node.
  2. On the PowerFlex Gateway, in command line, run the command:
    rpm -U EMC-ScaleIO-gateway-3.6-X.<build>.x86_64.rpm
    The gateway has been upgraded.

Next steps

  • Proceed to "Upgrade PowerFlex components".
