Upgrade and restart the SDCs

About this task

This process involves restarting the ESXi-based node where SDC is deployed. The restart may cause I/O failures. It is recommended to migrate VMs before starting this procedure.

Steps

  1. From the VMware plug-in main screen, under PowerFlex Systems, click SDCs.
  2. On the SDCs screen, right-click an SDC and select Upgrade SDC.
  3. In the Upgrade SDC dialog box, perform the following for each ESXi:
    1. Enter the ESXi password and click OK.
    2. When the upgrade is complete, click Finish, then Close.
NOTE:If the node has an SVM, place the SDS in maintenance mode.

In addition, if you have not migrated VMs manually, it is recommended to do so manually or to use ESXi maintenance mode. If you want to use ESXi maintenance mode, power off the Storage VM (SVM) prior to entering ESXi maintenance mode.

  4. From the vCenter, reboot each ESXi node, one at a time.
NOTE:If the ESXi node was placed in maintenance mode, exit ESXi maintenance mode and power on the SVM.
After each ESXi reboot, take the SDS out of maintenance mode and wait for the rebuild and rebalance operation to finish prior to upgrading the next SDC node.
NOTE:It is possible to follow SDCs' upgrade process through the main PowerFlex plug-in window. Under Advanced tasks, click Show Upgrade Process. Check the status of the SDC upgrade, and if successful, for each node, click Finish, and then Close.
