Special requirements for upgrades from v2.x to v3.x

Follow these special guidelines for a non-disruptive upgrade from PowerFlex v2.X to v3.X (in addition to the supported upgrade matrix):

Prerequisites

  • IP addresses of SDCs to be excluded during the non-disruptive upgrade
  • Admin access credentials for the PowerFlex Gateway

About this task

To upgrade SDCs along with the other system components during a non-disruptive upgrade, use the regular recommended procedures. However, if SDCs need to be upgraded separately, at a different time, perform the following steps before commencing any upgrade procedures. These steps will exclude the SDCs from the non-disruptive upgrade process.

Steps

  1. Use a text editor to open the gatewayUser.properties file, located in the following directory on the PowerFlex Installer/PowerFlex Gateway:
    Operating systemFile location
    Windows C:\Program Files\EMC\ScaleIO\Gateway\webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF\classes\
    Linux /opt/emc/scaleio/gateway/webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/classes
  2. Add the IP addresses of the SDCs to be excluded to the property im.ip.ignore.list=
    For example: im.ip.ignore.list=10.0.0.1,10.0.0.2,10.0.0.3
  3. Save and close the file.
  4. Restart the scaleio-gateway service:
    Operating systemAction
    Windows Restart the EMC ScaleIO Gateway service
    Linux Type the following command: 
    service scaleio-gateway restart
  5. Proceed with the regular upgrade steps described in this guide.

Results

The SDCs listed in the ignore list will be excluded from non-disruptive upgrades.
