Upgrading the PowerFlex operating system to a major ESXi version
Beginning with PowerFlex v3.5, the PowerFlex system supports ESXi 7.0 as an operating system for SDCs in a compute-only node configuration. When upgrading the hypervisor to this version, you must first upgrade the PowerFlex system to v3.5.x or higher and then perform the tasks in the following upgrade procedure.
NOTE:This procedure does not support upgrading hyperconverged nodes running on ESXi 6.x to ESXi 7.x . Hyperconverged nodes running on ESXi 7.x are only supported in
PowerFlex Manager. For information, refer to the
PowerFlex product offerings.
- The PowerFlex ESXi 6.0 SDC ZIP package (for example, sdc-2.5.0.180-esx6.0.zip) is compatible with all ESXi 6.x versions supported for the relevant version of PowerFlex.
- The PowerFlex ESXi 7.x SDC ZIP package is compatible with all ESXi 7.x versions supported for the relevant version of PowerFlex.
NOTE:You can also use this procedure to upgrade from ESXi 6.x to a later ESXi 6.x version or patch, without the need to upgrade the SDC. In this case, skip the steps for upgrading the SDC from ESXi 6.x to ESXi 7.0.
