Upgrade Dell PowerFlex to v3.6.x

PDF

Return the node to operational state

Perform the following steps to return the node you upgraded in the previous task to operational state:

Steps

  1. Ping the ESXi management IP address to verify that the node is connected in the network.
  2. From the vSphere client, right-click the node and select Connection > Connect to manually connect the node to vCenter.
Because the ESXi version of the node changed, the node could not reconnect automatically to vCenter. If "could not connect to HOST" alerts appear, wait a few minutes for the alerts to disappear, and if necessary try to connect again.
  3. Ensure that the node is displayed as ON and connected in both Hosts and Clusters view.
  4. Right-click the host and select Maintenance Mode > Exit Maintenance Mode.
  5. For a hyperconverged upgrade flow, in vCenter, expand the server and select the Storage VM (SVM). Power on the SVM manually.
  6. After the node has powered up, log back in to the PowerFlex GUI.
  7. For a hyperconverged flow, in the left pane click Alerts, and in the right pane confirm that no SDS disconnect message appears.
NOTE:After the SVM has powered on, it might take approximately 10 to 20 seconds for the SDS to power up and remove the disconnection alerts.
  8. For a hyperconverged upgrade flow, remove the SDS from maintenance mode:
NOTE:When upgrading a compute-only node (SDC), skip this step.
    1. In the left pane, click Configuration > SDSs.
    2. In the right pane, select the check box for the relevant SDS, and then in the upper menu click More > Exit Maintenance Mode.
    3. In the Exit SDS <SDS name> from Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Exit Maintenance Mode.
    4. Wait until the SDS's state displays as Healthy.
    5. In the pop-up window, click Dismiss.
  9. Verify the following in the PowerFlex GUI:
    1. For a hyperconverged upgrade flow, if the node was an MDM cluster member, in the left pane click MDM > Cluster settings, and in the right pane verify that the cluster's State appears as Healthy.
    2. In the left pane click Configuration > SDCs, and in the right pane check the SDC to which the node IP is assigned and verify that it is connected.
NOTE:If the SDC was upgraded, ensure that the same GUID is used in the new SDC. If the SDC GUI is incorrect, refer the "Modify parameters on ESXi servers" in the Configure and Customize Dell EMC PowerFlex v3.x guide.
  10. Wait for the rebuild/rebalance operations to complete.
    The node is now operational.
  11. Repeat the upgrade process for each node, starting with Prepare for the ESXi upgrade, until all nodes are upgraded and the system has been upgraded to the desired ESXi version with the relevant SDC version.

Next steps

NOTE:Verify that all nodes have been upgraded before proceeding to the post-upgrade steps.
