PDF

What's new in release 4.0.1

PowerFlex release 4.0.1 introduces the following new features:

Feature Details
Broadcom adapters: second source network adapter PowerFlex rack and PowerFlex appliance have previously been single sourced on Mellanox adapters. This feature adds a second source in case of shortages. PowerFlex Manager supports the following Broadcom adapter:
  • Model 57414 for 25GB (2x25) speed

The NIC installation supports:

  • OCP (on-board, 25G only)
  • FH (Full-Height)
  • LP (Low-Profile)

The second source network adapter works with PowerEdge (R650. R750, and R6525). The following firmware limits apply:

  • IDRAC firmware minimum: 5.10.10.00, A00
  • Broadcom NetXtreme minimum firmware: 22.0

This feature supports hyperconverged, storage-only, compute-only, and file-based compute-only deployments and works with Dell OS 10 and Cisco switches. Deployments with the Broadcom adapters are very similar to the deployments with the Mellanox adapters.

Support for import of a 4.0 software-only system PowerFlex Manager automates the process of importing a PowerFlex 4.0 software-only system. You can import a 4.0 software-only system in two ways:
  • By using the Initial Configuration Wizard
  • By discovering a PowerFlex system on the Resources page
Banner notification for software upgrades If a new version of the management software is available, PowerFlex Manager displays a banner to notify you of the new release. The banner displays a View Details link and an Actions menu to allow you to learn more about the new release and perform the upgrade.
Support for CloudLink 7.1.5 PowerFlex and PowerFlex Manager add support for CloudLink 7.1.5.

CloudLink 7.1.5 changes the disk mapping logic to use /dev/sdX, which is different from CloudLink 7.1.2 to 7.1.4. This version removes support for /dev/disk/by-id from CloudLink, thereby reverting to a /dev/sdX device mapping.

Due to key updates, adoption of CloudLink 7.1.5 is recommended for use with PowerFlex for data at rest encryption.

Sample templates updated to align with new network best practices The PowerFlex rack and PowerFlex appliance network design has been updated. The default, standard design is now two data networks, instead of four. The sample templates have been updated to match the new default.
Updated object limits for file services (NAS) The following limits apply to file services objects:
  • The maximum number of file systems for each NAS Server is 125.
  • The maximum number of file systems plus the number of mounted snaps for each NAS Server is 1500, including the maximum of 125 file systems.

For complete details on all product limits, see the Dell PowerFlex 4.0.x Technical Overview.

Miscellaneous bug fixes This release includes fixes to issues discovered in earlier releases of PowerFlex and PowerFlex Manager.
