Increase SDS threads

The default number of SDS threads under a high-performance profile is eight. For best performance, Dell Technologies recommends increasing the number of SDS threads from eight to twelve when the CPUs have twelve or more physical cores.

Run the following command to view the current setting:
scli --query_performance_parameters --all_sds --print_all

The parameter Active profile: high_performance: shows the number of SDS threads currently being used:

  • SDS_NUMBER_OS_THREADS
    • Current value: 8
    • Profile value: 8

The number of SDS threads is logged per SDS, and should be changed on all SDS nodes in the system.

Run the following command to change the SDS threads from eight to twelve:
scli --set_performance_parameters --all_sds --tech --sds_number_os_threads 12
NOTE:Increasing the SDS threads is expected to improve the performance in cases where the CPU is bound, for example: Small I/Os or fine granularity layout. In cases where the performance is limited by the drive performance (too few drives) or the network (large I/Os), changing the number of SDS threads does not help.
