Dell PowerFlex 4.6.x Technical Overview

PDF

Data layout

PowerFlex offers a space efficient storage layout with fine granularity.

With fine granularity, since space allocation occurs at 4 KB, the data that is stored on the disk is significantly reduced. Space allocation for medium granularity occurs at 1 MB.

For fine granularity, you must have SDPM or NVDIMM configured as a DAX device. After SDPM or NVDIMM is all set up in your environment, you must configure an SDPM or NVDIMM acceleration pool and then you can select it in the storage pool.

Data-compression is not supported for medium granularity. It supports thin provisioned, zero padded volumes. Zero padding is enabled by default for fine granularity and cannot be disabled. Zero padding is disabled for medium granularity.

Fine granularity supports persistent checksum for data integrity.
