Installing the heat sink

Prerequisites

If you are replacing a component, remove the existing component before performing the installation procedure.

NOTE:For models shipped with a heatsink labeled “VC” (Vapor Chamber), the heatsink covers the display cable:

NOTE:Themal pads (thermal conductors) are on the heatsink. If the heatsink is replaced, the new heatsink is shipped with thermal pads. Ensure all thermal pads are in place between the heatsink and the system board.

The following image indicates the location of the heat sink and provides a visual representation of the installation procedure.

Steps

  1. Align the screw holes on the heat sink with the screw holes on the system board.
  2. For systems shipped with an integrated GPU card, tighten the three captive screws in ascending order (1>2>3) to secure the heat sink to the system board.
  3. For systems shipped with a discrete GPU card, tighten the seven captive screws in ascending order (1>2>3>4>5>6>7) to secure the heat sink to the system board.
