Removing the heat sink and fan assembly - UMA configuration

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
    CAUTION For maximum cooling of the processor, do not touch the heat transfer areas on the heat sink. The oils in your skin can reduce the heat transfer capability of the thermal grease.
    NOTE The heat sink may become hot during normal operation. Allow sufficient time for the heat sink to cool before you touch it.
  2. Remove the SIM card.
  3. Remove the microSD card.
  4. Remove the base cover.

Steps

  1. Remove the two (M2x4) screws that secure the system fan to the frame.
  2. In reverse sequential order (as indicated on the heat sink), loosen the four captive screws that secure the heat sink and fan assembly to the system board.
  3. Lift the heat sink and fan assembly off the system board.
