Dell PowerVault ME5 Series Administrator's Guide

Operating with a single controller

An ME5 system with a single controller module does not offer a redundant configuration. If the controller fails, this leaves the system at risk for data unavailability.

A single-controller system defaults to write-through caching, in which data is written directly to disks rather than to nonvolatile storage. This setting cannot be changed in a single-controller system.

NOTE:If you are operating a system with a single controller, some functionality that is described in the documentation may be unavailable or not applicable to your system. For example, only one storage pool can exist and information about controller failover and recovery is not applicable.
