Identifying enclosures and EMMs

Identifying enclosures

For other management actions, you must provide information for a respective enclosure or EMM. These values are presented with respect to a specific adapter value provided.

To identify the attached enclosures to a specific adapter, run the following command:

shmcli list physical enclosures -a=<(SASAddress | AdapterIndex)>

The MD1400/MD1420/ME484 enclosures display the following output:

NOTE:
  • In MD24 Series enclosures, a single enclosure is listed as two EMMs designated as side A and side B. Each pair of enclosure entries will have the same service tag number.
  • Check the Side column to identify the location of the EMM. The side A and side B represents slot 1 and slot 2 respectively.
Identifying EMMs

To identify the adapters attached to each EMM, run the following command:

shmcli list emms -a=<(SASAddress | AdapterIndex)>

The MD1400/MD1420/ME484 enclosures display the following output:

The MD2412/MD2424/MD2460 enclosures display the following output:

Note the Enclosure Slot Index and the WWN columns. These values are required for command parameters.

Identifying drawers
Verify the status and number of drives in the drawers of an enclosure by running the following command:
shmcli list drawers -a=<(SASAddress | AdapterIndex)> -enc=<(WWN | EnclIndex)>

The following shows how to identify drawers.

Drawer 0 is the top drawer or the only drawer for the enclosure.
