Dell EMC PowerFlex Rack Using PowerFlex Manager

PDF

View a compliance report and perform remediation

PowerFlex Manager enables you to view a compliance report and perform firmware and software updates as needed.

About this task

If DAS Cache is installed on a node, you cannot update software and firmware components for the service.

The PowerFlex Gateway must first be compliant before you update a node. If a node is already compliant, it is disabled and cannot be selected.

If you want to update only the firmware on the nodes, select a minimal compliance version with firmware only as the target version for the service.

PowerFlex Manager does not upgrade VMware vCenter itself. It checks the vCenter version to determine if it matches the VMware ESXi version. If the ESXi version is higher, PowerFlex Manager blocks the ESXi host upgrade and displays an error. In this case, upgrade vCenter first or use a different compliance version that is compatible with the installed vCenter version.

Steps

  1. On the menu bar, click Services.
  2. Select a service to view the compliance report.
  3. In the right pane, click View Details.
  4. On the Service Details page, under Service Actions, click View Compliance Report.
The Node Compliance Report page displays. You can also view the compliance status on this page.
  5. Click Change to modify the target compliance version.
    1. Choose the Preferred Compliance File.
    2. Review the Compatibility setting. If it shows Recommended or Supported, proceed with the change. If it shows Not Allowed, review the alert for details about recommended or supported paths.
    3. If the change is recommended or supported, type CHANGE COMPLIANCE FILE.
    4. Click Save.
  6. Click Firmware Components to view the firmware components.
  7. Click Software Components to view the software components.
    • For compute-only and storage-only services, the Components drop-down list shows the software components available for update.
    • For hyperconverged services, PowerFlex Manager displays the following categories of software components available for update: SVM Software and Node Software.
  8. Select one or more noncompliant nodes. If you are planning to perform an upgrade for a full PowerFlex rack, click the box in the upper-left corner of the Firmware Components tab to select all nodes in the service.
  9. Click Update Resources.
  10. Specify when to apply the resource updates.
    • To perform a non-disruptive update right away, choose Allow PowerFlex Manager to perform firmware and software updates now. Specify the type of update you want to perform by selecting either Instant Maintenance Mode, Protected Maintenance Mode, or Evacuate Node from PowerFlex (for PowerFlex versions prior to 3.5).
    • To perform a non-disruptive update at a later time, choose Schedule firmware and software updates. Specify the type of update you want to perform by selecting either Instant Maintenance Mode, Protected Maintenance Mode, or Evacuate Node from PowerFlex (for PowerFlex versions prior to 3.5).
    • To perform a disruptive update right away for a full PowerFlex rack, choose Allow PowerFlex Manager to perform disruptive updates now. If you are certain you want to proceed, type REBOOT ALL NODES AT ONCE.
  11. Click Apply.

Next steps

If you encounter any errors while performing firmware or software updates, you can view the PowerFlex Manager logs for the service. On the Service Details page, in the right pane under Service Actions, click Generate Troubleshooting Bundle.
