Dell EMC PowerFlex Rack Using PowerFlex Manager

PDF

Services deployed outside of PowerFlex Manager

PowerFlex Manager can discover PowerFlex rack environments that are deployed outside of PowerFlex Manager. It discovers existing VMware vSphere clusters as existing services. PowerFlex Manager can then perform alerting, health monitoring, and RCM compliance monitoring and remediation on these services.

During discovery, only resources with a status of managed or reserved are in the existing service. Unmanaged resources are not included. If you find a component missing, you can change its state to managed and update the service details to include it.

The existing service must fall within the hardware compatibility matrix and be supported at current minimum RCM levels.

Keep the following considerations in mind when discovering existing services:

Component Details
Network switch You can discover an existing service without switches. PowerFlex Manager places the service in lifecycle mode, which limits the actions you can perform within the service. Lifecycle mode allows the service to perform only monitoring, service mode, and non-disruptive compliance upgrade operations.

The switches must be manually configured correctly to prevent PowerFlex Manager actions requiring switch connectivity from failing.

CloudLink Center When you add an existing service for a CloudLink configuration, you select a target CloudLink Center for the service. If PowerFlex Manager loses communication with the CloudLink Center and it is part of a cluster, PowerFlex Manager moves to another CloudLink Center when you update service details.
Nodes You can select one credential for all nodes or choose a separate credential for each node. Go to the Credentials Management page under Settings to manage credentials. You can select one credential for all nodes (or SVMs) or choose a separate credential for each node. Go to the Credentials Management page under Settings to manage credentials. PowerFlex Manager inventories all nodes with valid credentials inventories all nodes with valid credentials.
Network PowerFlex Manager attempts to select the correct network that is based on the information provided. If it finds more than one network, you must select the network from the available list.
Port group If you do not want PowerFlex Manager to manage access for a port group, leave it cleared. A network must be selected for a port group to be in the deployment.
PowerFlex management controller You cannot discover a PowerFlex management controller as an existing service.

You can distinguish existing services from new services on the Service Details page. For an existing service, the Reference Template field contains Generated Existing Service Template.
