Dell EMC PowerFlex Rack Using PowerFlex Manager

PDF

Importing Active Directory users

Before importing Active Directory users to PowerFlex Manager, you must create at least one directory service using PowerFlex Manager. PowerFlex Manager roles are not automatically mapped to Active Directory user roles. You must assign an appropriate role to each imported user. After the import, these users can log in to PowerFlex Manager.

About this task

The format to log in is: <Directory Service Name>/ <user name>, and type the password.

If an imported user is deleted from Active Directory, that user is not automatically deleted from PowerFlex Manager. The deleted user cannot log in to PowerFlex Manager, and you must remove the user manually from the user list. Importing an already imported user does not have any effect. The user role also remains the same.

Steps

  1. On the menu bar, click Settings and click Users.
  2. On the Users tab, click Import Active Directory Users.

The Import Active Directory Users page is displayed.

  3. Select a specific directory source from the Directory Source drop-down list to import the users from the selected directory source.
  4. Select any of the following options from the View menu to filter the search results:
    • All—Displays both users and groups
    • Users—Displays only users
    • Groups—Displays only groups
  5. Under the Available Users/Groups section, enter a user or group name in the Find a User/Group field to search for one or more users or groups in the selected directory.

To perform an explicit search for a particular user or group, type the exact letters of the user or group.

To search for a collection of users or groups, you can use a wildcard (*) character in your search. Wildcards are not automatically added to search strings. Therefore, you must enter them explicitly.

    NOTE:

If possible, do not use a wildcard (*) at the start of a search string, as this search pattern can slow down the search significantly. For example, avoid a search string such as '*smith'. This type of search can be very slow, and, sometimes, may cause the search to timeout and return an error. Embedded or trailing wildcards are much faster. For example, you might improve search performance by entering 'john*' or 'user*abc'.

You can also speed up searches by specifying the lowest point in the AD tree as the base DN for the search.

  6. Select the users or group you want to import and click the forward arrow (>>) button.
The selected users or groups are added to the Users/Groups to be imported section.
  7. To assign a role to all the users or groups, select the users or groups and select any of the following roles from the User Role drop-down list: Read Only, Administrator, Operator, or Standard.
    • To apply specific roles, select the role from the Role menu beside the user or group name.
    • To view the imported group, select All Groups from the Filter by Group menu.

In a single import operation, if you import a user individually and as part of group, the role that is assigned to the user individually precedes the role that is assigned to the group.
