Dell EMC PowerFlex Rack Using PowerFlex Manager

PDF

Configure syslog forwarding

You can configure PowerFlex Manager to forward syslogs it receives from system components to a remote network management system. PowerFlex Manager provides authentication through the configuration settings you provide.

About this task

You can configure PowerFlex Manager to forward syslogs to up to five destination remote servers. You can set only one forwarding entry per remote server.

You can apply forwarding filters that are based on facility type and severity level. For example, you can configure PowerFlex Manager to forward all syslog messages to one remote server and then forward syslog messages of a given severity to a different remote server. The default is to forward syslog messages of all facilities and severity levels to the remote syslog server.

Prerequisites

  • Ensure your system components are configured to send syslog messages to the PowerFlex Manager virtual appliance.
  • Obtain the IP address of the hostname for the remote syslog server and the port where the server is accepting syslog messages.
  • If sending only some syslog messages to a remote server, you must know the facility and severity of the log messages to forward.

Steps

  1. On the menu bar, click Settings > Virtual Appliance Management.
  2. On the Virtual Appliance Management page, in the Syslog section, click Edit.
  3. For Host, enter the destination IP address of the remote server to which you want to forward syslogs.
  4. Enter the destination Port where the remote server is accepting syslog messages.
  5. Select the network Protocol used to transfer the syslog messages. The default is TCP.
  6. Optionally enter the Facility and Severity Level to filter the syslogs that are forwarded. The default is to forward all.
  7. Click Save to add the syslog forwarding destination.
The Virtual Appliance Management page displays the configured details as shown below:

    Syslog Forwarding  <destination-ip>(<Facility><Severity Level>)
