Dell EMC PowerFlex Rack Using PowerFlex Manager

PDF

Add volumes to a PowerFlex hyperconverged node or a PowerFlex management controller 2.0 cluster

When PowerFlex Manager deploys a PowerFlex hyperconverged node, it creates two thin-provisioned 16 GB volumes named powerflex-service-vol-1 and powerflex-service-vol-2.

About this task

For a hyperconverged service or PowerFlex management controller 2.0 cluster, the added volumes are mapped to the datastore. Enter the datastore name for each volume added. See PowerFlex management controller datastore and virtual machine details for more information.

You can enable compression when adding volumes to a PowerFlex hyperconverged node.

For more information on adding volumes, including how to create a single volume, see the PowerFlex Manager online help.

Steps

  1. On the Service Details page, click Add Resources > Add Volumes.
  2. To add existing volumes, select Add Existing Volumes and follow these steps:
    1. Click Select Volumes to choose the volumes to add.
    2. Enter a volume or datastore name search string in the Search Text box. You can apply additional search criteria using the size, type, compression, or storage filters.
    3. Click Search.
    4. Click the check box for each volume you want to add.
    5. Click the >> button to select the volumes. Click Add.
    6. Define a template for datastore names in the Datastore Name Template field. The template must include a variable that allows PowerFlex Manager to produce a unique datastore name.
    7. Click Next
  3. To create multiple volumes:
    1. Click +Add New Volume.
    2. In the Volume Name field, select Auto Generate Name.
    3. In the Volume Name Template field, define the template for volume names. The template must include a variable that allows PowerFlex Manager to product a unique volume name.
    4. In the How Many Volumes field, select the number of volumes to create. This number must not be greater than 50.
    5. In the Datastore Name field, define a template for datastore names. The template must include a variable that allows PowerFlex Manager to product a unique datastore name.
    6. From the Storage Pool menu, choose the storage pool where the volume resides.
    7. Select the Enable Compression check box to use PowerFlex NVDIMM compression.
    8. In the Volume Size (GB) field, select the size in GB. The minimum size is 8 GB. You must specify a value divisible by eight.
    9. In the Volume Type field, select thick/thin.
  4. Optionally, click Add New volume to add another volume section. Provide the required information.
  5. Click Next. Review the volume details on the Summary screen.
  6. Click Finish.
The service moves to the In Progress state and the new volume icons appear on the Service Details page. After the deployment completes, the new volumes appear on the Service Details page with a check mark in the Storage list.
