Dell EMC PowerFlex Rack Using PowerFlex Manager

PDF

Add a service deployed outside of PowerFlex Manager

You can add an existing service to discover and import hardware resources that were not originally deployed with PowerFlex Manager. Most of the actions that can be performed within PowerFlex Manager for a new service can also be performed on a service that was deployed outside of PowerFlex Manager.

About this task

You cannot add a PowerFlex management controller.

Prerequisites

  • If you are using node pools, you must have access to the node pool.
  • The VMware vCenter, PowerFlex Gateway, CloudLink Center, and hosts must be discovered in the resource list.
  • The PowerFlex Gateway must be in the service.

Steps

  1. On the menu bar, click Services and then click + Add Existing Service.
  2. On the Add Existing Service page, enter a service name in the Name field.
  3. Enter a description in the Description field.
  4. Select the Type for the service.
PowerFlex Manager checks to see whether there are any vCLS VMs in local storage. If it finds any, it puts the service in lifecycle mode and lets you migrate the VMs to shared storage.
  5. To specify the version to use for compliance, select the version from the Firmware and Software Compliance list or choose Use PowerFlex Manager appliance default catalog.
NOTE:Changing the compliance version might update the firmware level on nodes for this service. The global default firmware repository maintains the firmware on shared devices.
  6. Specify the service permissions under Who should have access to the service deployed from this template?. Click Next.
  7. Verify that the network automation type is set to Full Network Automation and click Next.
NOTE:Do not select Partial Network Automation unless instructed to do so by Dell Technologies Support. This option is only for special use cases.
  8. On the Cluster Information page, enter a name for the cluster component in the Component Name field. Select values for the cluster settings:
    Service type Cluster settings Description
Hyperconverged or compute only Target Virtual Machine Manager Select the vCenter name where the cluster is available.
Data Center Name Select the data center name where the cluster is available.
NOTE:Ensure that the selected vCenter has unique names for clusters in case there are multiple clusters in the vCenter.
Cluster Name Select the name of the cluster to discover.
OS Image Select the image or choose Use Compliance File ESXi image if you want to use the image provided with the target compliance version. PowerFlex Manager filters the operating system image choices to show only ESXi images for a hyperconverged or compute-only service.
Storage only Target PowerFlex Gateway Select the gateway where the cluster is available.
Protection Domain Select the name of the protection domain in PowerFlex.
OS Image Select the image or choose Use Compliance File Linux image to use the image provided with the target compliance version. PowerFlex Manager filters the operating system image choices to show only Linux images for a storage-only service.
  9. Click Next.
  10. On the OS Credentials page, select the OS credential that you want to use for each node and SVM. You can select one credential for all nodes (or SVMs) or choose credentials for each item separately. Click Next.
  11. Review the inventory on the Inventory Summary page and click Next.
  12. On the Network Mapping page, review the networks that are mapped to port groups, make any required edits, and click Next.
  13. To import a large number of general purpose VLANs from VMware vCenter, perform these steps:
    1. On the Network Mapping page, click Import Networks. PowerFlex Manager lists as Available Networks the port groups that are defined in the vCenter. You can see the port groups and VLAN IDs.
    2. Optionally, search for a VLAN name or VLAN ID to limit the search results.
    3. Click each network that you want to add under Available Networks. To add all available networks, click the check box to the left of the Name column.
    4. Click the double arrow (>>) to move the networks to Selected Networks.
    5. Click Save.
  14. Review the Summary page and click Finish when you are ready to add the service.
